2010 Bulgaria: Providing expertise
After several years of activity, the German Government’s Development Aid organisation, GIZ (formerly GTZ) ended its engagement in Bulgaria. In this context, ALTUS was asked to provide expertise for a regional conference in Sofia, involving present and future beneficiaries of EU Cohesion policy. The subject of our contribution was the analysis of the development f the EU’s cohesion policy, with special regard to the on-going reform debate and its future aspects. The assignment involved a plenary speech and participation at several roundtable discussions during the event.

OECD Sigma was asked to assist the Croatian authorities with regard to the application of the EU’s public procurement directives in the context of preparations for EU membership. In this context, ALTUS’s experts were asked to contribute to the design of an efficient national procurement system by analysing the international and Hungarian experience with procurement in the context of EU funding programmes, with special regard to Cohesion Policy, which will be the principal development resource for Croatia for many years to come. The assignment involved participation at a comprehensive workshop in Zagreb for the experts of the Croatian Government.

2011 Serbia: Workshop for development policy professionals
ConsAlt and its partners are actively pursuing a policy to bundle the expertise of the Central and South-Eastern European countries and international advisers involved in the Western Balkan’s preparations for EU membership in a regional knowledge-management network. ConsAlt was asked to contribute to this project, and to implement a dedicated workshop for development policy professionals in Serbia, in the framework of GIZ’s first international conference on this topic, involving GiZ’s Alumni Network.

2011 Serbia: Ministry of Economy and Regional Development of the Republic of Serbia - project implementation
The Ministry of Economy and Regional Development of the Republic of Serbia, ECORYS of the Netherlands – implementing a comprehensive project for the establishment of an EU-conform regional development policy framework in Serbia – as well as the German GIZ, asked ALTUS to contribute with expertise regarding improving the efficiency of the EU’s international aid, pre-accession and post-accession development policy instruments. In this context, ALTUS assisted to an international conference involving EU member states, (potential) candidate countries from the Western Balkans and the EU’s Eastern Partnership network. The assignment involved a plenary presentation as well as the management of a workshop for development policy stakeholders from Central and Eastern Europe.
